About Us
Unmute exists because most workplace harassment in India goes unreported — and what isn't reported, can't be fixed.
More than 70% of gender-based harassment cases never reach official channels. Without data, organisations and policymakers are left guessing about what needs to change—and who it affects.
Unmute addresses this by collecting anonymous, self-reported experiences through a simple online form. We analyze this data to uncover patterns across roles, sectors, and identities—helping the ecosystem understand where the gaps are and how to act.
We're not a grievance redressal platform. We're not here to name and shame. We're a data enabler—designed to shift how workplaces understand, prevent, and respond to harassment.
Built at the intersection of gender justice and technology, our work is evidence-led, survivor-informed, and driven by the belief that silence is not consent—and that data, when held responsibly, can be a tool for transformation.
“Robust data collection is the foundation for designing effective preventive strategies for workplace harassment (ILO & Gallup, 2022)”
Values
Anonymous & Restorative
We lead with compassion and confidentiality. Every experience shared with Unmute is heard—without judgment. We don't name or shame. Our goal is accountability, healing, and long-term change—not punishment.
Gender-Neutral & Inclusive:
Workplace harassment impacts people across all genders and identities. Our design, language, and approach reflect this reality—ensuring that everyone feels seen, safe, and supported.
Data-Driven & Tech-Enabled
We rely on evidence—not assumptions—to surface patterns and drive action. Our tech is built to enable privacy, uncover systemic gaps, and enable meaningful, measurable change.
What Drives Us
We are a team of practitioners, researchers, and system designers who have spent years working at the intersection of gender, livelihoods, and technology.
Unmute is rooted in a simple but urgent question:
Why is abuse still happening—and what will actually stop it?
We've seen how gender bias operates across every aspect of life—from who gets to speak up at work, to whose safety is protected, to how trauma is dismissed or ignored. And we've seen how the system fails to prevent harm—despite laws, policies, and training programs meant to help. Through our research and field work, we uncovered that there is lack of intent to implement PoSH meaningfully and poor understanding of abuse and its patterns. We created Unmute to solve these issues using what we know best: evidence, systems thinking, and community insight. We want to understand and spotlight
- Why abuse happens
- What conditions increase its likelihood
- Who is most vulnerable
- And how we can prevent it—before it begins
Unmute isn't just a product. It's an infrastructure for prevention. We exist to bring hard data, real stories, and collective will together—so that workplace safety is no longer optional, but non-negotiable.
